In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard
Whitstable Lifeboat was launched at 3.06pm on Sunday 10th September after a report of two persons in the water off Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey. The lifeboat arrived at the scene and found two children aged 12 and 10, one in the water and one in a kayak.
The 12 year old remained in her kayak but the 10 year old had been tipped out of her craft and was clinging to her friends kayak about 300 yards from the shore in an offshore 20-30 knot wind.
One parent tried to swim out to assist but turned back as the distance was too great for swimming.
The two casualties where brought onboard the lifeboat along with their kayaks and returned to Leysdown Beach beach where family members were waiting.
This was the 39th call of the year for Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews.
