In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews received their first call of the year on Wednesday evening when the lifeboat was launched at 4.00pm following a report from the UK Coastguard of a person having entered the water at Seasalter.

The lifeboat arrived at the scene and commenced a search as far inshore as the depth of water on the ebb tide would allow. The police and Kent Fire and Rescue were also at the scene.

The lifeboat was ‘stood down’ when the police reported the casualty was safe ashore having been assisted by two members of the public.

Whilst returning to station the lifeboat crew located a drifting 8-foot dinghy off Wave Crest and brought the craft ashore at the harbour ramp where two members of a lifeboat shore party recovered the craft.
