In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable Lifeboat was launched at 5.23pm on Wednesday to a report of a broken down speedboat about 1-mile off the old Herne Bay Pier Head.

The lifeboat arrived at the scene and found the two occupants of the 12-foot craft fishing and in no need of assistance. Both were wearing lifejackets and had means of contacting the Coastguard if required. The lifeboat therefore returned to station and remained afloat for exercise purposes later in the evening.

The call was recorded as a ‘false alarm with good intent’.
