In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard info@whitstablelifeboat.org.uk

Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 5.50pm on Monday following a report of one or two persons in the water off Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey.

The lifeboat arrived at the scene to find a person onshore receiving medical attention from an RNLI Lifeguard and a paramedic.

Two members of the lifeboat crew went ashore to assist with first aid and obtain further information. Additional ambulance personnel arrived and took over care of the casualty.

The casualty, a male in his 40’s, who had to be resuscitated, was later taken to King’s CollegeHospital, London. A second male did not need further treatment.

At 6.11pm the lifeboat was diverted from the incident to a report of an inflatable dinghy in difficulties off the King’s Hall, Herne Bay, however on arrival at the scene the coastguard reported that the casualty was safe ashore and that the lifeboat could ‘stand down’ and return to station.

This was the 22nd call of the year for Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews.
