In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

The first came at 3.55pm when the lifeboat was launched after concerns had been expressed for an 11-year old boy between Whitstable Harbour and Hampton Pier Jetty in Herne Bay. The lifeboat crew searched the area but was stood down after an hour when it was confirmed police had found the child safe ashore.
The lifeboat was launched again at 6.15pm to a report of an empty kayak drifting off Tankerton. The occupant was reported as safe ashore. The lifeboat crew recovered the craft and was collected by its owner from the lifeboat station later.
There have now been 11 calls on Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews so far this year.
