The Whitstable Atlantic 85 lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 8.19pm on Monday evening to assist the Herne Bay Coastguard Unit who had a kayak, that appeared to be in difficulties, under observation off Hampton.
On arrival at the scene the lifeboat crew found that the kayak, which was towing a kite surfer to the shore had almost made it back to the beach. Neither the kayaker or the kite surfer required assistance and the lifeboat left the scene to return to station.
Lifeboat crews were alerted for the second time this week when on Tuesday afternoon the coastguard requested the lifeboat to launch after concern had been expressed for a dinghy sailor who had not returned to the shore at Whitstable.
However as the lifeboat was in the process of launching the shore crew observed the dinghy and its occupant drifting slowly towards the beach and only in knee deep water. Therefore the launch was aborted and the call put down to a false alarm with good intent.
