In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 3.26pm on Tuesday to assist a 16-foot angling boat with three persons onboard which had suffered engine problems in the vicinity of the Pollard Spit at the entrance to the Swale.

The lifeboat crew located the craft and took the vessel under tow and landed the craft and its occupants ashore on the Sheppey side of Harty Ferry.

Weather conditions at the time were calm with a light westerly breeze. The cause of the crafts distress was a failed solenoid on the starter motor.

This was the eighth call of the year for the stations volunteer crews.
