In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 13.50pm on Saturday 30th April following a report of persons cut off by the tide off Seasalter.

The lifeboat crew searched the entrance to the Swale and as far inshore as the depth of water would allow before locating two persons with jetski’s in shallow water a ½-mile south east of Shellness on the Isle of Sheppey.

Two members of the lifeboat crew walked through the shallow water and assisted the casualties in walking with their craft back to the lifeboat. They had gone aground on a sandbank 2-hours earlier.

Neither of the casualties, a father and son from south east London were harmed and, as their craft were serviceable, they made their own way ashore and the lifeboat returned to station at 14.55pm and was back ready for service at 15.30pm

Both the Herne Bay and Sheppey coastguard units attended the incident on shore.

This was the 11th call of the year for Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews.
