In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable Lifeboat was launched at 3.45pm on Saturday to assist a 25ft sailing cruiser with two persons onboard that was unable to make progress against the south westerly force 5 wind and tide off Shellness in the entrance to The Swale. The vessels engine had insufficient power to take over.

The lifeboat arrived to assist by which time, the yachts engine had failed completely. A member of the lifeboat crew was placed onboard and the casualty vessel taken under tow for Harty Ferry where the craft was placed on a mooring. The two occupants remained onboard and the lifeboat returned to station. The sailing cruiser was subsequently found to have a fouled propeller.
This was the 23rd call of the year.
