In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 8.30pm on Thursday to a report of a 14-foot speedboat with two persons onboard drifting off Herne Bay Harbour with the occupants attempting to paddle ashore.

The lifeboat arrived ‘on scene’ and the crew were advised that the craft and its occupants had made their way ashore.

The lifeboat crew subsequently located the casualty and its male occupants on the foreshore between Hampton and Herne Bay Pier with the mobile coastguard unit in attendance. The lifeboat therefore was released from the incident to return to station.

Weather conditions at the time were variable force two winds.

This was the 9th call of the year for Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews.
