In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 6.27pm on Monday to a report of a 19-foot yacht with one person onboard drifting and at risk of running aground in the Swale off Faversham Creek.

The lifeboat crew located the casualty vessel in the approaches to Faversham and Oare Creeks.

Helmsman Rob Judge said “The yacht had sailed from Folkestone and attempted to anchor off Faversham Creek but the anchor had dragged and the crafts outboard engine lost power. The yacht was unable to use its sails. We towed the craft from a mudbank to a berth in Oare Creek and no further assistance to the vessel was needed”.

“The male occupant of the yacht did the right thing in calling for help, on our way to and from the scene we encountered easterly force 5 winds, heavy rain and hail and 2-metre waves”.

This was the 14th call of the year for Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews.
