In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable Lifeboat was launched at 2.32pm on Wednesday following a report from the UK Coastguard of an object thought to be an upturned jet ski offshore from Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey,

The lifeboat arrived at the scene and commenced a search of the area. The UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd also attended the incident.

After a short search the lifeboat crew located the remains of a balloon and the first informant onshore confirmed that this was the object that had been seen.

The lifeboat and helicopter were therefore stood down to return to their respective stations and the call logged as a false alarm with good intent.
