In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 8.32pm on Sunday 17th July following a report of a boat adrift off Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey.

The lifeboat arrived at the scene and the crew located a 7-metre RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) with no persons onboard but with its engine cover off and 7 lifejackets onboard.

The craft was taken under tow and brought ashore at Love Beach where the Sheppey Mobile Coastguard was waiting.

After consulting with Dover Coastguard the lifeboat was released from the scene to return to station at approximately 9.55pm.

The owner of the craft subsequently met the coastguard team and confirmed that his craft had broken down and had broken adrift from its mooring whilst he went to make arrangements for its recovery.
