In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable RNLI’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched  at 4.15pm on Tuesday 6th August following a  report of broken down jet ski, with one person  on board and another swimming for shore off Herne Bay.

The lifeboat arrived on scene just as the swimmer was making it to the shore and the jet ski which had run out of fuel and its remaining occupant was  taken under tow to Herne Bay Harbour to be  met by the Margate coastguard team.

A spokesman for Whitstable Lifeboat said “Our advice is that it is important that persons onboard a broken down jet ski or other craft should remain with their vessel as they will be more conspicuous, and can easily be seen by the lifeboat crew, as opposed to a person’s head in the water”.
