The Whitstable Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 4.50am on Sunday to assist the Sheerness ‘all weather lifeboat’ with an 98-foot barge aground on the beach near to the Warden Springs Caravan Park on the Isle of Sheppey.
The barge with three persons onboard had suffered engine failure the previous day and had drifted ashore.
The Whitstable lifeboat arrived ‘on scene’ and a crewman put onboard the stranded vessel. The lifeboat then took a tow line from the Sheerness All Weather Lifeboat to the casualty craft which was subsequently towed clear.
The Whitstable lifeboat then recovered it’s crewmember from the barge who was replaced with one from the Sheerness lifeboat.
Whitstable lifeboat then returned to station whilst the Sheerness lifeboat towed the barge to Queenborough.
