In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

The Whitstable Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 1.35pm on Tuesday to assist a 22-foot yacht with two persons onboard that had suffered engine failure in the vicinity of the Columbine Spit, 2-miles north of Whitstable harbour.

After it’s engine failed the yacht had been unable to make any headway under sail due to the force 6 winds and rough conditions.

A lifeboat crewmember was placed onboard to assist the crew and the lifeboat took the craft under tow to Whitstable harbour.

There were no injuries to either of the two occupants of the yacht.

The yacht had been on passage from Ramsgate to Oare Creek. This was the 2nd call of the year for the Whitstable volunteer lifeboat crews.
