In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 3.16pm on Tuesday following a report of two persons in a dinghy possibly in difficulties off Herne Bay.

The lifeboat crew located two adult males in a rowing boat ¼-mile off the Herne Bay Sailing Club who confirmed they were not in any difficulties but nevertheless accepted an escort from the lifeboat to the slipway in Herne Bay harbour.

The lifeboat crew saw the two occupants safely ashore at the slipway to be met by the Herne Bay Mobile Coastguard and the lifeboat was then released by the UK Coastguard to return to station at 3.50pm.

The weather at the time of the call was a strong westerly breeze..
This was the 2nd call of the year for Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews.
