Whitstable’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 5.05pm on New Year’s Day following a request from the UK Coastguard after they received a report from a concerned passer by of three persons seen attempting to launch a wooden boat into the water at Herne Bay harbour.
The lifeboat arrived ‘On scene’ and the crew commenced a search of the area both outside and inside the Neptune Arm whilst the Herne Bay mobile coastguard unit searched the shoreline.
The coastguard unit located a wooden boat which showed signs of having been afloat and dragged across the beach but there where no signs of the occupants.
There being no reports of any missing persons the lifeboat was ‘stood down’ to return to station at 5.32pm.
Weather conditions at the time were north easterly force 4 winds and rain.
This was the 1st call of the year for Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews.
