In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

The Whitstable Atlantic 85 lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 8.07pm on Sunday evening following a request from the UK Coastguard at Dover to assist in the search for a sinking speedboat with 3 persons onboard reported as being in the Warden Bay area of the Isle of Sheppey. The Sheerness inshore lifeboat and the Sheppey coastguard team were also proceeding to the area.

The Whitstable lifeboat arrived at the scene and along with the Sheerness inshore lifeboat commenced a search of the area but due to the low state of the tide was unable to get close inshore.

Following further communications between the Dover Coastguard, the mobile coastguard units and the casualties the search moved to the Minster Beach area where the coastguard teams subsequently located the 3 occupants of the craft walking up the beach having made their own way ashore near to The Leas.

At 9.24pm Whitstable lifeboat was ‘stood down’ from the incident and returned to station. The speedboat was believed to have sunk before the lifeboats arrived.

The casualties were then passed into the care of the ambulance service. Kent Police were also in attendance. Weather conditions at the time were south westerly force 3-4 winds, excellent visibility and a smooth sea.
